EAR LOBE PIERCINGS
Whether you are 5 or 95, it's never too late to shine! Earlobe piercings have been a favourite way for many folks to accessorize and can easily be styled to add a dash of femininity to your gender presentation. We are honoured to help folks navigate the process with kindness and joy.
NIPPLE PIERCINGS
The chest area is a common area of dysphoria for many trans people of different genders. Piercing nipples is a great way to reclaim that area and take pride in it!
For AMAB (Assigned Male At Birth) folks:
- As long as we can put appropriately sized jewellery (at least a 14g) in the tissue we have found good success piercing at any stage of HRT (Hormonal Replacement Therapy).
- During early stages while the tissue is actively changing and growing (roughly the first two years), it is recommended to seek regular check ups to ensure the jewellery is correctly sized as it may need longer or thicker jewellery depending on how the tissue grows.
- After breast implant surgery it is recommended to wait at least a year.
For AFAB (Assigned Female At Birth) folks without top surgery:
- If you are regularly binding, there is a much higher chance of migration and rejection which can cause scar tissue (which can cause complications for top surgery).
- If you bind more casually you can try using vented eye patches to reduce the pressure on the jewellery and piercings.
For AFAB (Assigned Female At Birth) folks after top surgery:
- It is essential to have enough blood flow and tissue prominence in the tissue before getting them pierced. Not all nipple grafts are able to successfully able to heal a piercing in the first few years, the longer you wait the higher the chance for a successful heal!
- If the nipples were fully removed from the body and grafted back on, it will likely take at minimum 2 years for the tissue to stabilize enough to get it pierced with lower risks of migration of both the piercing and graft. Having sensation back in the tissue is a good indicator!
- If the nipple tissue doesn't protrude much, doing daily massages of the area can help, as can using a pump.
GENITAL PIERCINGS
Genital are already very anatomically diverse when it comes to piercings, but when HRT and surgeries come in to play there are even more options! We often recommend seeking a consult with one of our piercers (Victory in particular has great experience in accessing anatomy and navigating goals for trans folks).
For AMAB (Assigned Male At Birth) folks before bottom surgery:
- Currently we do not offer penile piercings, but we are happy to make studio recommendations and referrals depending on your goals (shoot us an email!)
For AMAB (Assigned Male At Birth) folks after bottom surgery:
- Depending on which piercing you are hoping for it is likely to take a minimum of one to two years for the tissue to be stable enough to be pierced with reduced risk of complications like migration, rejection or tearing.
For AFAB (Assigned Female At Birth) folks without bottom surgery:
- HRT will present many new options as the anatomy grows, especially over the first two years! Some piercings like the VCH may start to migrate with bottom growth, and new placements can become viable.
For AFAB (Assigned Female At Birth) folks after bottom surgery:
- Depending on which piercing you are hoping for (and what type of surgery you've had) it is likely to take a minimum of one to two years for the tissue to be stable enough to be pierced with reduced risk of complications like migration, rejection or tearing.
